I wiped Bart today because I wasn’t happy with his face-up, and dug my L-bi out of storage. Surprisingly, it looks really cute with Rory’s wig! A supportive onee-san appeared. :>

justchien:

Lou helped dress Bart and Tim.

I don’t have a Chuck-like wig, so I uhhh photoshopped onto Bart’s wig. Anyway, had a realization recently that the L-bi mold is an acceptable “cosplay”-level face sculpt for Chuck. Not good enough to make the doll into the mold, of course, but good enough to suggest the character.

I did four face-ups today. Gonna hop downstairs now and paint more dolls.

3/16/12 General Update

1.) Roterwolkenvogel’s Unoa Lusis Mod - WHAT A CUTIEEEEE ugh love Unoas so much. <3 He came out great! I’m so happy he’s finished.

2.) LosT&FounD’s Luts Soony - Donnnne! This one took so many tries, haha. She’s dark because she’s been blushed to match a darker colored body.

3.) DawnDusk’s Migidoll Ryu - Donnnnne too! Yaaaaay.

4.) Chibaraki’s MNF Rheia - MSC bloom. :/ I was finishing this up when I saw that the sealant around the nose had lifted up. diagopsrigapwieposae was so mad. Am in the process of redoing it. I’m focusing on making her look more evil/bitchy this time, since I think that was lost a bit last time around when I was focused so much on making her gold eye makeup stand out.

5.) GIANT PILE OF HEADS/MARCH WAIT-LIST - All coated and have had their eyeliner done.

:)

Bart is cozy up there. I left them posing like that on my small desk in my room.

I’m just so excited about my new doll! Sorry, sorry. :D I yanked the eyelashes I put in Bart ages ago out. He needs a new face-up soon anyway. He’ll probably be a prime target for my next airbrush experiment.

Devil’s Trill - Unoa L-bi

Natural face-up, brown theme, tapered eyebrows, black hair

Devil’s Trill - Unoa B-el

Natural face-up, pink theme, tapered eyebrows, blond hair

1/29/12 General Update

1.) Devil’s Trill’s Unoa B-el - All done! Blonde hair guy with dark brown eyelashes. Pink blushing. Will take nice daylight photos of tomorrow.

2.) Devil’s Trill’s Unoa L-bi - All done! Black hair guy with black eyelashes. Brown blushing. Will take nice daylight photos of tomorrow.

3.) Chien’s Soom Idealian51 Cuba - All done too— I experimented a lot with this guy while waiting for the other commissions to dry. He’s been airbrushed, for instance, haha! I used a new gloss on him, and also refined how I do stubbles. He also has a hairline, widows peak, and sideburns painted on. It’s not that visible, but I like having it there underneath the hair. I also made one eyebrow a bit higher to make him look more like my favorite drawing of Kon.

1/24/12 General Update

1.) Devil’s Trill’s Unoa B-el - Brushwork done. One eyebrow looks high— can be erased and positioned lower. Just need lip lines, then I can start blushing.

2.) Devil’s Trill’s Unoa L-bi - Brushwork done. One eyebrow looks high— can be erased and positioned lower. Just need lip lines, then I can start blushing.

They’re both natural face-ups. I gave them subtle differences in eyebrow angle/shape and eyelash pattern. For natural face-ups I like to make the eyelashes a little different so that the face-up looks interesting, but all the contouring and blushing in the end will stay in the natural range.

Last one! Some of these are from late 2009, so I decided to not go back any further than this.

By the way, here’s the Unoa L-bi girl I did for the demo at PMX a few weeks ago. I had a really good time there, and learned a lot about BJDs! That may seem weird to hear from someone who has been in this hobby for so long and paints dolls too, but I really did learn a lot. There was a lot of really interesting information about the curing of dolls, the grit of resin, tips and tricks on sanding, and even the chemistry of resin thanks to a chemist being part of the panel.
It seems like a shame to not put eyelashes in her, but this is my go-to head for face-up demos because the audience gets a kick out of seeing me pop a completed head that I worked on in front of them immediately onto Bart with some eyes. It’s really gratifying! So sadly, this face-up will be gone soon too if I do more face-up demonstrations at conventions. I might be doing one at ALA, but that’s not at all a concrete thing at all! I’m still waiting on hearing back, haha.
Almost at fifty followers! :) Once again, if I hit fifty followers on Tumblr I’ll host a face-up giveaway twice a year. As a result, I get excited when I see the number of followers go up for this blog.

11/12/11 General Update

1.) Tadase’s Bambicrony Mae - Completed, awaiting eyelashes

2.) Belle_Laide’s LLT Roderich - Completed, awaiting eyelashes

3.) DawnDusk’s Migidoll Ryu - Redo #3, first time had eyelid lines that were undesirable, second time had sealant issues due to spraying in cold weather, currently wiped and awaiting recoating

4.) Snowgray’s LTF Vera - Redo #3, first time the eyebrows were the wrong shape, second time a smudge was sealed into the face, currently wiped and awaiting recoating

5.) PMX Prep Heads - Ready for face-up demo

It’s been raining this weekend— I want to try to coat and start again on Ryu & Vera tomorrow before I leave for PMX. My hope is to complete the last two heads sometime next week. I’m considering transitioning from MSC to Purity Seal due to how it’s less toxic. I’ll probably do the base coat in MSC for the UV-protect, use the Purity Seal to do the face-up layers, and do the final coat in MSC for extra UV-protect.
