My sister suggested setting up a shop today, so I did. What do you guys think? It doesn’t work (you can try, but I’ll cancel your order) because it’s not fully set up yet. I know that a couple of artists have moved their commissions off of places like forums and websites and set up webshops too. I’m considering switching to this also since being limited to painting only for the DoA crowd does not seem best for business (I have my slow months too, after all, where I don’t get any commissions). Plus, the PM system on DoA is cranky sometimes haha! :)

If I get this shop up and running properly, I can set it to restock to 5 face-ups a month (first Sunday of each month?) and people can purchase their face-up on the shop easy-peasy. I’ll figure out some kind of wait-list system. I’ve had a lot of people flake on me in the past year (eeeeek) and I’ve had many friends suggest to me that I should start doing deposits so that people will take their waitlist position more seriously.

So maybe instead I can do something where people can buy their $5 waitlist position and then pay the rest of the face-up later after their doll has been shipped to me and I’ve started work on it. Shipping will then be invoiced separately as usual. Also, communication will then be moved to email— which is nice in a way too because I have a smartphone so I know right away when I get emails.

The nice thing about the shop too is that it’s a place where I can put up my repaints for sale and other things. I actually do have a few extra dolls and parts hanging around, so it wouldn’t hurt to have somewhere to sell it nicely with a good checkout system.

Just a thought, anyway. Etsy and Ebay are great for bringing over traffic to find your stuff though. However, I think I could possibly get by through posting up my stuff on Flickr? Maybe. Hmmm.

If I do get this shop up and running, I’ll try to think of some kind of promotion for it as an incentive. :)

Thanks for reading! Please let me know if you have any thoughts on this, actually. There aren’t that many face-up artists out there with webshops, so I don’t really know how well it works for the customers and the artists.

Free Face-up Opportunity

Hey everyone! Just wanted to say that because recently I’ve started painting vinyl dolls, I’ve become more interested in Dollfie Dream style heads. Please message me if you have a Dollfie Dream style head (Volks, SQ Lab) and maybe we can work something out. Since I have not painted one before, I am unable to guarantee how good the results will be— hence why the face-up will be free. : )

4/1/12 General Update

1.) july31’s Luts Winter ‘11 - Done with her daughter and father duo! I’m happy with how these two came out. This is a no nonsense gal who resembles her father and mother but has a hint of freshness to her and intense eyes.

2.) july31’s Luts Regen - He’s supposed to be a somewhat self deprecating but sarcastic father who is mature. Tried to match his eyebrow color to a photo of his wig. His eyebrows are not groomed and his colors are supposed to be muted.

3.) paladia’s Domuya Saisha - Taka inspired tough and strong gal who is feminine but somewhat androgynous with classic, glamour eyebrows! She was fun.

4.) Erised D. Sire’s Souldoll Yurr - Beautiful boy with light lips and forest green eyeshadow. Switch inspired lower eyelashes. Very delicate. :3

5.) My Ghoulia - Pictured next to a Dead Tired Ghoulia to show how different she looks. I wanted to keep this one because I like her darker and thicker hair than the Dead Tired Ghoulia, but after playing with her for a few days I think I prefer the newer jointing system. I may repaint this one to sell. She has light freckles and is just so cute. D,:

6.) My Toralei - I gave her just one fang, haha. Was thinking about how cute and silly my cats look when they do that. I like the eyebrows I did for her, but I wish I could have did more with the colors. Need to be more creative next time.

7.) My Draculaura - Cute, sweet darling. :,3 I really like how she came out! Such a sweet sculpt. I want to cut her hair but I’m afraid that if I straighten out her bangs, her bangs will be too short. Waffling a bit. I want to give her a hime cut.

3/16/12 General Update

1.) Roterwolkenvogel’s Unoa Lusis Mod - WHAT A CUTIEEEEE ugh love Unoas so much. <3 He came out great! I’m so happy he’s finished.

2.) LosT&FounD’s Luts Soony - Donnnne! This one took so many tries, haha. She’s dark because she’s been blushed to match a darker colored body.

3.) DawnDusk’s Migidoll Ryu - Donnnnne too! Yaaaaay.

4.) Chibaraki’s MNF Rheia - MSC bloom. :/ I was finishing this up when I saw that the sealant around the nose had lifted up. diagopsrigapwieposae was so mad. Am in the process of redoing it. I’m focusing on making her look more evil/bitchy this time, since I think that was lost a bit last time around when I was focused so much on making her gold eye makeup stand out.

5.) GIANT PILE OF HEADS/MARCH WAIT-LIST - All coated and have had their eyeliner done.

bjdtextconfessions:

Please take this anonymous survey whether you have or don’t have bootleg dolls.

It is eight questions long, seeks to find out how many bootleg dolls may be in the English-speaking community, a few questions on the thoughts you have on bootlegs, and asks whether or not a “How to Spot a Bootleg” resource should be made.

Thank you. I would appreciate it if this was passed around the BJD community.

bjdtextconfessions:

For the longest time I was afraid of my BJD. When I moved into a new house with my fiance, I would find it sitting in places I didn’t remember putting it often. One time I even walked into the living room (I keep her in my bedroom) to see it standing there in the middle of the room on its own, when I didn’t put it there. It was only a few months later I discovered it was my fiance playing a long-running joke on me to scare me… I almost sold my doll because I thought it was haunted!

I don’t think I’ve mentioned it here, but I run this blog FYI. Some of the confessions are just so funny and cute, haha. I’m really excited for some of the stuff that is queued up. :)

Some more runway makeup face-up inspiration. :)

With the last few, I just like the idea of the white and black liner. Super awesome. I also love the glowing, fresh look with the dusted on bright eyeshadow with shaded in creases in some of the photos, plus the awesome blend of peacock colors in the first two photos and more. Also, more brown face-up ideas! Brown face-ups are requested a lot in this hobby, so I like looking at ways to do them better.

Started a nice face-up for Sawyer so I could get some airbrush practice in while i was waiting for commissions to dry. Due to how many times I wiped off the paint, the nice beginning face-up underneath vanished! She’s been washed clean now, haha. I’m a bit sad because I really liked how it was going so far, but eh gotta practice!

I love looking at backstage photos for runway shows for makeup inspiration for myself. Sometimes I also find some ideas that would work great for face-ups, so I’m sharing some of them here from recent shows. :)

Some commentary: I’m super in love with the silver dry brushed onto the brow bone. Can’t wait to do that on a doll! I just love sparkles in general, which is why I like the first look with the very clean eyeliner but lots of silver sparkle. The shimmery smokey eye appeals to me for the same reason. I also really like the soft pink color on the lips and on the edges of the eyes on look number six. The strong bronzing on the last two looks is perfect for dolls— I think what they chose to highlight looks great at the same time. I love seeing nice brown-toned makeup designs!

sailorashes asked: Hi! :D Have you ever had a problem with a sticky residue left behind after wiping a faceup off? D: I use MSC UV cut and Windsor Newton brush cleaner to seal and remove faceups, and I had this problem today and now the residue wont come off completely. :/

Yes! It just means I have to scrub and scrub and scrub. Like I mentioned earlier, I spent three hours removing the Luts Soony face-up. You may need to use a soft toothbrush or a Mr. Clean sponge to get some of that sticky residue off too.

Face-up Critique to Myself

Note to self,

stop it with the super, ultra long eyelashes. It doesn’t look good! Too overdone. Yick yick yick.

I still haven’t done an airbrush BJD face-up yet so I’ll get on that eventually!

Also here is another photo of Sawyer, since I dyed her head a bit darker and also changed the positioning of her fingers.

I’m sick today, so while staying at home I sanded an old doll and dumped her into hot dye to feel productive. I’m really happy with the results. <3 She was actually looking kind of green, and her yellowing was uneven.

2/18/12 General Update

1.) LosT&FounD’s Luts Soony - This head’s default face-up really put up a fight! Took me three hours to remove it, and even after when I coated the head I still found a little left of it here and there so I had to wipe it again. Need to resin match this one to the body.

2.) DawnDusk’s Migidoll Ryu - A redo! Just need to finish darkening the eyebrows to a dark brown, bringing out the eyes more, and adding more dark pink to the lips.

3.) Chibaraki’s MNF Rheia - Kpop dark evil girl face-up with gold! I’m actually considering redoing this because I’m not crazy about the nude cheek blushing I added. If I keep this face-up, I just need to continue to intesify the eye makeup and make her eyebrows black.

This month’s face-ups are all fairly specific when it comes to details, so I’m chipping away at them fairly slowly.

heycloud:
